Creatives for creatives – that’s at the heart of what we do. So, when furniture designer (and past client) Samantha Pattillo and her business partner, Eric May, wanted to work with us on branding their outdoor furniture company, AE Outdoor, we jumped at the opportunity. What we discovered was a team of talented, hard-working design junkies (sound familiar?) with a level of dorkiness to rival our own. Working with other designers can be challenging, but it can also be incredibly enlightening and we are so happy to count Eric, Samantha, and the AE Outdoor team as friends and collaborators. Their work is amazing and pretty much the best thing to put our asses in since a well-worn pair of Levis, so it was easy to get excited about their brand and their products.
The real fun of working with this team was developing a brand that combined design, form, and function much in the same way the AE team’s furniture designs do. We had to create a visual representation that not only matched the company’s mission, but also complimented its products. Like a well-designed chair, we built the brand piece by piece, considering how each came together to form the whole. Colors, patterns, textures, typography, and photography came together to form a beautifully cohesive look and feel for these incredibly talented artists and their amazing line of products. And, because our friends at AE are a bunch of cheeky wits, we helped them develop a voice that was equally witty and slightly inappropriate (in all the ways we like people to be inappropriate), which was a great way to offset the very sophisticated and modern logo and keep the brand representative of this diverse, dynamic creative team.
It takes a talented team to step back and create a simple, understated brand that allows the ‘product’ to shine…and that is just what they did. Now our gorgeous furniture is the main focus when you visit AE Outdoor, and our logo and branding is the perfect wrapping paper on our very impressive packages.
